So, The Captivating Caldon Canal, has still captivated us
even though it has continually peeeed it down. We will return one day, and
hopefully have better weather.
We did meet a hire boat crew, and one of the
blokes was completely peeeeed off with the weather. Hey ho.
I guess its not so good if you have 5 days on a boat and for 5 days it
rains.
The Black Lion pub at Consall Forge, did a fantastic home
cooked Sunday lunch, and they got me my Sunday telegraph. Excellent, beer was
good, location fantastic.
The Churnet Valley Railway is just along from the pub. It is run by volunteers and enthusiasts.
Watched a nuthatch. Watched cock pheasants squaring up to
one another, they are a bit tame really, as all they do is a bit of head
bobbing, and then one turns away and the other sneaks up behind, and then they
start head bobbing again.I was expecting them to do a bit of kick boxingtype of
thing , at least. That’s quite a good
thing about a boat, you can treat it like a bird hide.
Went to bed listening to a tawny owl giving out a few feeble
hoots. Not surprised really, as it must
have been really fed up with the rain
At Consall Forge you are moored on the River Churnet, so I
kept a look out as the water started racing by.
It did go into the RED briefly, but was down by the time we wanted to
leave.
Today, Monday, we are moored at Hazelhurst Locks on the Leek
branch, which has to be one of the prettiest mooring spots…………………..EVER. The
weather is supposed to be changing on Wednesday, so we might just hang about a
bit. Whey hey. Oh and there may news on the Airhead Composting toilet front, as there is an elsan down here thats quite remote, I might, only might, have a go at emptying it. Ooooeerrrr.
